Late Breaking News!!  This Just In. . . . . .

OAP traveled to Ballinger yesterday for Zone and was honored as the Alternate Advancing Play.  Jourdan P. was chosen as the Best Actor of the day.  Bobby H., Madison P., and Alex T. were selected for the All Star Cast, and Stephanie C. was named to the All Star Crew. 

Also, both our yearbook and our newspaper were given Awards of Achievement by the UIL ILPC.  Those editors are
S. Carter and K. Whipple (YBK) and A. Hill and E. Willingham (NP).  Also, K. Whipple and S. Carter were selected for the 3rd place student life spread among all 2A schools in the state.  Plus, J. Wilson was chosen as honorable mention for both her sports spread and her clubs spread.  Additionally. S. Smith was named to the honorable mention list for his feature page design.


The Screaming Eagle Band traveled to Colorado City to compete in the UIL Region 6 Concert and Sightreading Contest.  The band earned First Division “Superior” ratings from all three Concert and all three Sightreading judges to finish with “Superior” ratings in both categories and (combined with our “1” from marching)
the overall UIL Music Sweepstakes award. 
 This is one of the highest honors a band can earn – it is the Grape Creek Band’s 2nd consecutive and 4th in 5 years. 
Grape Creek was the only 2A band to earn “Sweepstakes” at this East Zone Contest.

The Grape Creek Jazz Ensemble traveled to Stephenville to compete in the Tarleton State University Jazz Festival.  The Jazz Band earned Division 1 “Superior” ratings from all three judges and won the Best in Class for the 2A division.  Additionally, Ramiro C. was awarded with the Most Outstanding Rhythm Section Performer Award for ALL of Class 2A AND 3A.  Others that were recognized with “Outstanding Musician Awards” were James P., Jeffery P., John S., Mark H., Romi S., Mason L., and Johnathan H..  Congrats to these students and all the members of our Jazz Band on an outstanding performance.

Two Grape Creek students have won "Best of Show" in their categories for ART

At the Regional TAFE (Texas Association of Future Educators) conference, A. Pustka and K. Teters
earned 1st and 2nd place in the  Speaking competition. 
 They will both be competing on the State level next.
T. Briels was selected as one of only 5 students from all of Texas to present her
Early Childhood Education lesson plan at the TAFE State Contest on March 28th.

J. Pollock received a Certificate of Distinguished Merit for his Publicity entry into the State Technical Theatre Contest over the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare.

GCHS placed 1ST as a team in journalism (which includes editorial, feature, headline, and news writing events) at the UIL meet in Sonora.  There were 20 schools there!

CONGRATULATIONS TO GCHS MUSIC DEPARTMENT!
On Feb. 9th,
members of our Grape Creek Screaming Eagle Band participated in the Region 6 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest.  Our Trumpet Trio (J Schmidt, J. Bearden, and M, Hasty) and
Sax Quartet (C. Reisner, J. Hatten, A. Rosenthal, and B. O’Dell) each received a Division I “Superior” rating and will now advance to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in San Marcos.  R. Saldana also advances to “State” with his Sax Solo (memorized) as do J. Schmidt and B. O’Dell who also received Division 1 ratings on Solos (non-memorized).

On February 9th, 21 GCHS Choir students  participated in the UIL Region 6 Solo Contest at ASU. 
Six students received a Division I (Superior) rating on a Class One Solo.
H. Morrison, C. Daniels, N. Neil, S. Harper, L. Valdez, and K. Harper will advance to the State Solo Contest in San Marcos on Memorial Day Weekend.
Also performing and receiving a Division 2 (Excellent) Rating were:  A. Hasty, M. Hogg,  R. Hughes, S. Lykins, S. McWright, M. Mills, J. Power, R. Shaw, C. Allen, K. Smith, S. Ireland.  Receiving a Division 3 (Good) Rating were: R. Shaw, K. Mooney, K. Darby, Y. Garcia

Board of Trustees: The GCISD regular School Board meetings are held on  the second Monday of each month.  All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are held in the Grape Creek Community Room and begin at 6 pm.  The Community is always invited to attend.


GCISD Registration Information
All students new to the district must bring their social security cards, a copy of their birth certificate, proof of residency (a utility bill with the address printed on it) and their immunization record to the schools when they register.  High school students who will be driving to school need to bring proof of insurance and their driver’s license for a parking sticker.
